Story

Originally released on January 1, 2011 on my previous Boundless Gratitude website, the blurb that went with it was:

"My musical New Year's resolution. Like an old Don Quixote, I keep tilting at windmills. Haven't toppled any yet. But I'm still going at it. Even the devastatingly powerful Knight of Mirrors seems perplexed. To paraphrase [the late, great] Muhammad Ali: Rumble O.G. rumble!"

Lyrics

Shaman, sage, saint and prophet all teach the same thing

Hold sacred the metaphor, is what I hear them sing

Don’t let belief in what you can’t blind you to what you can

Hold sacred the metaphor: peace throughout the land

Imitating people who died long ago

Won’t lead you and I today where we need to go

Their stories can guide us as we learn to understand

Hold sacred the metaphor: peace throughout the land

Metaphors use words in ways not lit’rally true

Cross our horizons, focus our views

Can any name or word of God be but metaphor?

Like fish and loaves on the mount

No need to fight there’s always more

Jerusalem, “Abode of Peace” so often at war,

Still people around the world thirst for your metaphor

Weary of concrete peace and its bloody hand

Hold sacred the metaphor: peace throughout the land
